It’s made an admittedly drizzly entrance, but summer 2019 is officially here.
From beer festivals to snail racing, there’s a lot going on in the UK this summer. Here are just some events and ideas for you and the whole family to enjoy, whatever you’re into.
Petrol (or diesel) heads
The Silverstone Grand Prix is a mainstay of the Formula 1 calendar and we’d expect this year to be no different. Take in the drama between 12th and 14th July at the iconic track.
Don’t have £75 (minimum) to splash out on tickets? Goodwood is a slightly cheaper alternative and the Revival is always a great opportunity to see incredibly maintained classic cars up-close.
We’re also fans of the Festival of the Unexceptional, which gives air time to the less… celebrated, shall we say… retro cars of the world. Who would pass up the opportunity to see stunning Corollas, Metros, Allegros, Sunnys and loads more for just over a fiver? Last year’s winner was a 1977 Chrysler Alpine. Beautiful.
Beer festivals
There isn’t much that could beat a frosty pint in the sunshine, so beer festivals are a must for any aficionado this summer.
It doesn’t get much bigger than the CAMRA Great British Beer Festival from 6th – 10th August, which has over 1,000 beers to choose from in the Olympia in London.
Luckily, there are also plenty of beer festivals, both big and small, up and down the UK. So if you fancy a pint of Jack Hammer or Bolt Maker, find your nearest event here.
Pedal pushers
If you love a bit of Lycra, there’s plenty to get peddling to this summer.
A couple of highlights are the Welsh Festival of Cycling (Gŵyl Seiclo Cymru) which combines the frankly stunning landscapes of Denbighshire with rides to suit a vast range of abilities and fitness levels. There’s even camping.
New Forest Cycling Week, from 26th July to 3rd August, also offers cycling opportunities for the whole family, with a range of routes for all abilities.

Music festivals
There’s an almost overwhelming number of festivals to choose from this summer, from Reading and Leeds, to Green Man, to Bloodstock. And with such a variety of music and entertainment to suit all tastes, it’s time to get planning.
They’re brilliant fun and a great way to entertain the kids, but we admit they can put you quite significantly out of pocket. Keep your eye out for more localised events, such as the Manchester International Festival, which puts on free music and other performances around the city.
We put together a list to get you started.
Something more quirky
We don’t know what it is about the UK, but we have a talent for putting on an array of weird and wonderful events and festivals particularly in summer months.
How about a Garlic Festival (tip: take some chewing gum), Gravy Wrestling or the Snail Racing Championships?
