Give bad weather the cold shoulder

We’ve seen it all this summer: three whole days of sunshine followed by weeks of rain.

If you’re planning a build in the UK, considering how it will stand up to the elements over time is obviously a big consideration.

As we approach the winter months, BOB looks at some clever products that will help your build stand the test of time.

Waterproof cement bags

We’ve all been there. Your cement gets wet at the wrong time and it’s basically game over for that particular bag.

Keep your cement high and dry with a waterproof cement bag like the Blue Circle Mastercrete Rapid Cement.

It sets and hardens rapidly and comes in a weatherproof pack so your worries (not your cement) are washed away. It can stand up to foot traffic in 4-6 hours and vehicles in 8-12.

All weather sealant

Water and weather proof sealant gets our ‘seal’ of approval this winter. The Evo-stik Silicone Lead and Gutter Sealant forms a tough, elastic rubber that’s waterproof and stands up to movement too.

It can also bond to certain materials without primer – a nice time saver if you just want to get the job done and get back inside.

Keep cosy in PPE

It doesn’t matter how smart the materials you’re using are – if you’re feeling cold and unfocused, your work isn’t going to be too clever.

Luckily, the world of PPE is a vast and very fleecy place. Hats, gloves, scarves, jackets, body warmers… your choices are endless.

The key lies in choosing warm clothing that doesn’t inhibit your movement.

We’ll just leave our range of PPE here…

Due care and attention

The biggest weapon against the elements is due care and attention on the job.

Some products will behave differently when it’s cold or wet. Materials such as masonry and plaster are notoriously sensitive to cold so you should always refer to the manufacturers’ instructions.
