We recently began working with Street League to give Dylan, a 17 year old football fanatic from Johnstone a work placement in our Paisley branch in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Read on to find out more:
As part of his placement at Jewson, Dylan will be given the opportunity to see all sides of what it is like to work in a builders merchant. From helping customers out in the yard to understanding back office support functions, this opportunity allows Dylan to find both his strengths and preferences, making him better prepared for the world of work.
Dylan said “I’ve enjoyed my time in branch, particularly being hands-on out in the yard. Everyone who works here has been really helpful to me, giving me the opportunity to get stuck in. I’ve learnt a lot so far about all kinds of things including health and safety procedures and the different types of building products. Plus I really don’t mind the early starts!”
Kenny Peacock, Branch Manager from Paisley said “Dylan has been a joy to have here. He’s bright and always very positive about any task he has been given. This placement has not only benefitted Dylan, he’s been very useful to have here in the branch. He’s got on well with the team and I’m grateful to Street League for this partnership, it’s fantastic to see how the power of football can inspire young people to think about career options.”
Work experience is crucial in giving young people like Dylan a taste of the real world of work. After Dylan finishes his placement we hope he will consider a future with Jewson. However, Dylan also happens to be an excellent footballer with a trial pending! Wherever the future takes Dylan we wish him all the best from the team at Jewson.
