Jewson’s Grand Gesture

This year’s Grand Designs Live Show saw Samantha Levitt make the final of the Garden Designer of the Year Competition, her design was created with the help of our Leatherhead branch who kindly donated £250 worth of materials.

Samantha, a North Yorkshire designer, got in contact with us to help her create her own, fantastic one of a kind garden. We were of course keen to support her. She successfully made it as one of the four regional finalists in the competition at the Grand Designs Live Show, which ran from 3rd-11th May.

We operate closely in the community, this donation offered a fantastic opportunity for Samantha to showcase her architectural talent, something that is important to us, as young, up and coming budding designers need to start somewhere.

The garden design was based on the idea of a prism; divided into areas represented with the use of different colours, levels and building materials. Our donations of plywood, polythene, concreting sand and timber, used for housing the planting, seating and pond areas plus general fixtures and fittings, helped make the design come alive.

The supplied materials were sent pre-cut to the workshop ready to be assembled at the show for a three-day build.

As a leading building materials supplier we are always keen to encourage innovation and the dynamic use of products and materials within landscaping, building design and construction. Supporting up and coming talent where possible, recognising that only by doing so can the agenda for design innovation and development move forwards.

Samantha Levitt said: “I am so grateful for the donation from Jewson, it enabled me to successfully complete my design for the competition. For me to be able to showcase my design at the large scale London event meant so much to me.”

Mark Smith, Branch Manager at Leatherhead said: “When the email came through I didn’t hesitate in saying ‘yes’, this was a great opportunity for Samantha. Having her design make the final of Grand Designs Live and for our materials to appear as part of this is excellent!”
