Jewson Shave Money For Charity

Becky Evans, a Jewson employee has raised an amazing £2,300 for Macmillan Cancer Support by bravely having her head shaved by Hull City legend Dean Windass during our charity week.

Becky’s uncle, Stuart McCarthy sadly passed away on Boxing day 2013, after suffering from cancer. She decided to have her hair shaved off as a different way to raise money for the cause.

Becky, from the Rotterdam Road Branch of Jewson in Hull, took part in last week’s charity week, which saw branches up and down the country doing their bit to raise money. As part of our commitment to the community, our charity week is an opportunity to give back to our loyal customers and raise money and awareness for Macmillan.

Our Rotterdam store manager, Chris Reader praised Becky for her remarkable contribution: “She is very brave and we are all very proud of her. She is going abroad next month, so the fact she has done something like this before going on holiday is remarkable. To do what she has done to raise money for charity has to be commended.”

Becky said: “The response we had was amazing, so that’s why I decided to do it. We’ve now raised £2,300 for Macmillan and that number is still growing. I always said I’d rather shave my hair off before I ever jumped out of a plane, so that is why I chose it.”
