The Building Better Communities initiative by Jewson has a clear aim, to support good causes that are working tirelessly to improve the lives of people in their local communities. Judging the entries is always a tough job, how do you choose between the organisations and people doing incredible work across the country, day in day out?
While looking through this year’s nominations, Noah’s Ark Hospice really stood out. The charity is already doing fantastic work supporting hundreds of children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, but it’s striving to do more. As part of its plans to construct central and north London’s only children’s hospice building, it needed supplies for a horticultural and sensory garden at The Ark. The idea of creating a space where children can be themselves, and not just patients, is one which really resonated with the whole judging team. It’s something any parent would want for their child.
Back in July, we were thrilled to announce that Noah’s Ark had won the top community prize of £45,000 worth of building supplies to help make the garden a reality. That was just the first step. We will be working closely with the team on site and making sure they have all the landscaping materials they need.
It doesn’t stop there, the Jewson team are also keen to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, so we will be heading to the site to volunteer on the project as well. I personally can’t wait to see it starting to take shape.
