Why doors are more than just blocks of wood on hinges

Doors are statements. They can define an entire building. Have you stood outside 10 Downing Street, or visited 221b Baker Street? In fiction, doors are portals to other worlds. Take platform 9¾ at King’s Cross, for example, or the doors that opened the wardrobe to Narnia.

We use them every day. We open them, close them, hold them, bolt them, answer them and even keep wolves from them. They reflect the rooms and buildings they protect, which is why it’s important to choose the right style of door.

On a functional level they can prevent the spread of fire and act as a barrier to noise. They help to create smaller, more personal spaces, making them easier to heat up and keep warm – which is useful if you live in a cool and draughty country like the UK.

And, because they can be locked, they make us feel safe too. That’s their primary function – they were invented thousands of years ago to control what went into and out of a building.

Doors come in all shapes and sizes – they can be wooden, windowed, folding, sliding or revolving. The style creates an impression of what lies beyond, so what do your customers want their doors to say about them, and the spaces they lead to?

Modern, traditional, warm, inviting, bright – take a look at our wide range of doors, which include hardwood, softwood, glazed, panelled, patterned, plain, oak, pine, ash and many more. There’s a style to suit all types of homes and personalities.
