talkSPORT’s TOP SPORTING MOMENTS OF 2019

Among the hustle and bustle of this year’s Jewson Live, we managed to catch up with a few familiar faces to discuss the top sporting moments of 2019.

Was it Lucy Bronze’s stunner in the Women’s World Cup quarter-final that saw England take the lead against Norway? Or has Tiger Woods’ heroic comeback at the Masters 11 years after his last major win made the cut?

Here’s what Laura Woods, Darren Gough and Darren Bent had to say about this year’s sporting triumphs.

Darren Gough, former England cricketer

England winning the Cricket World Cup

“Well the biggest sporting moment of the year for me has to be the cricket, it was such a massive year for the England team. England were favourites for the World Cup on home soil and who can forget Ben Stokes – he was superb. We won it and then after that we went onto an Ashes series which was absolutely brilliant. Yes, we didn’t keep hold of the Ashes, with Australia retaining it purely because of a drawn series, but it was still fantastic.

“But yes, my top moment has to be England winning the Cricket World Cup on home soil.”

Darren Bent, former England footballer

A record-breaking Premier League season

“It has to be the last day of the Premier League season for me. Liverpool and Manchester City achieved record-breaking results, I think it was 98 and 97 points, which is just unheard of. The season was just full of so much drama thanks to those two teams. On the last day of the season, Brighton scoring first against Manchester City but then finding a way to come back and Liverpool beating Wolves – I just think for two teams to be so far in advance of everyone else, that’s the greatest sporting moment football-wise for me.”

Laura Woods, TV presenter

Champions League semi-finals

“For me, it was that Champions League week with the semi-finals: Ajax-Spurs and then Liverpool-Barcelona, the comebacks on both sides for the English teams were amazing.

“My favourite semi-final was probably Liverpool-Barcelona, purely because I’m an Arsenal fan and I didn’t want Spurs to qualify!”
