The nights are starting to draw in and statistics show that domestic burglaries increase by around 20 per cent during the darker months, making it a peak time for home security.
Encouraging your customers to think about the importance of keeping their properties and valuables safe can generate additional business opportunities, so here are some key points to help you make the most of the security market:
1) Security – more than just cylinders
There’s more to security than just cylinders, night latches and mortice locks. Today, there is a wide range of technologically advanced products on the market. Cost effective and easy to install, these include home alarm systems that can be operated using a smartphone, digital locks, digital door viewers and home CCTV systems.
2) Offer a security audit
If you’re carrying out building work at a customer’s property, why not offer to carry out a security audit? This involves looking at all aspects of the home – both internal and external – to see if adequate security measures are in place.
From fitting gates, alarms or CCTV to upgrading the lock cylinder to one that meets the TS007 3* standard, designed to prevent lock snapping crimes, ensuring that all windows have at least one appropriate lock or even simply fitting shed doors with hasps and padlocks, there are often a number of opportunities to improve security in and around the home.
3) Raise awareness
For many people, home security is often an afterthought and they only tend to invest in it reactively – for example, following a break-in. However, initiatives such as National Home Security Month (NHSM) are helping to change this.
Running throughout October, NHSM is designed to raise awareness of the importance of home security, helping consumers protect their homes, families and possessions, while at the same time driving demand for businesses that can offer installation.
