Welcome to Part 5 of my Self Build journey with Jewson. To start at the beginning read the first blog post.
Without further ado I called the Jewson Self Build helpline on 0800 032 8968.
I got through to Lee Broomhall, who heads up the Self Build Team. A very helpful chap who explained that the whole process is very simple. I need to fill out an application form (available online) to open a trade account and will then get paired with a local branch. They will be mine and Laura’s main point of contact throughout the project.
One bonus is that we’re able to have a 30 day credit account that falls due for payment at the end of every calendar month. The even bigger bonus is that our credit limit could be as much as £20,000 depending upon our requirements and circumstances.
This is great news for a number of reasons;
- It helps our cash flow.
- We don’t have to whip out the credit card everytime that we place an order.
- We get an itemised invoice with every order we make.
- We get a monthly statement listing our spend in that period.
- We don’t have to get as much cash in place for the start of the project as we first envisaged.
It’s the perfect solution for keeping track of spend and controlling the finances.
He also explained that the whole ethos of Jewson’s approach to helping their Self Build customers is to be with them every step of the way. A project takes many twists and turns through to its fruition and because it’s something that Lee and his team see every day of the week they understand the pitfalls. They’re there to offer help, advice and support from the beginning to the end.
By the end of our conversation I was feeling better already. In fact so much so I’d nearly forgotten about the horrors that lay within our ‘period property in need of modernisation’.
Oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I put the phone down and downloaded Jewson Self Build application form from their website. I shall fill it out and get it sent off.
