WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A NEAR ZERO CARBON ENERGY JEWSON BRANCH?

Thanks to the Carbon Fund created by our parent company, Saint-Gobain, Jewson Bristol, Days Road, has become our second near zero carbon energy branch.

We’ll never be the type of business that does things by halves, which is why we’ve given Jewson Bristol, Days Road, a huge upgrade to help cut its carbon footprint.

From better insulation and more efficient heating technology, to low-energy lighting and new electric car ports, this branch is full to the brim with new and exciting, sustainable tech! Much of which can be found in our Making Better Homes range.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the products used, starting with climate control…

Comfortable and efficient

We’ve installed a Daikin Sky Air A-Series air conditioning unit to help create a climate-controlled environment all year round for our customers and colleagues. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter, this highly efficient product has won multiple awards for its low environmental impact.

We’ve also included a new heat recovery system in the branch. This will help maintain warmth in the winter by making the most of the air that’s already in the building, making it work that bit harder.

Low-carbon logistics

Switching to electric vehicles where possible is a big focus for Jewson and Saint Gobain. Having recently launched our first ever electric van for delivery services with JPS (Jewson Partnership Solutions), we’re already seeing the benefits. This branch has been supplied with an entire fleet of electric forklift trucks that emit zero direct emissions and are powered by our electric charging stations which are also available for our customers to purchase for their projects.

With lighting accounting for 5% of global CO2 emissions, that was our next challenge. The branch’s new LED lighting is helping us save up to 90% in energy usage compared to a traditional lighting.

Raising the roof

Whether it’s the scorching summer or a frosty winter, our brand new insulated roof has been key to maximising the branch’s energy efficiency. It’s also helped keep colleagues and customers comfortable whatever the temperature!

Finishing off the renovation are our solar photovoltaic panels which cover the entire roof of the branch, helping the location generate its own energy using the power of the sun.

We’re incredibly proud of the changes we’re making to reduce our environmental impact and this branch is one of many which will be upgraded over the next few years.
