I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Across the Road!

Have you ever thought about which celebrities would make up your ideal community? We have, and asked people across the UK which famous faces they would like to see in their local community.

Compiled as part of our Building Better Communities initiative, the results revealed that Ant and Dec took top spot as preferred lollypop men, while Jeremy Clarkson was selected as mayor and Lewis Hamilton was in pole position to deliver the role of postman. Meanwhile, 27% UK residents would ask Jimmy Carr to run their local convenience shop.
The star-studded line up reveals who Brits think would be the best local leaders to strengthen the community; however, when asked about reality, the results were very different.

Of those asked, 70 per cent reported there is average to little or no community spirit where they live, while one in five felt the best way to improve the community would be to host an annual street party or festival. The survey also revealed that, on average, Brits can name just five of their neighbours and 18-24 years olds are the best when it comes to contributing to their local area.

Our Building Better Communities competition is asking the public to nominate local causes close to their hearts so we can help them achieve the community they dream of. For more information or to nominate a community project for a Jewson transformation, head over to Building Better Communities.
