Avoid Hitting A Wall When It Comes To Brick Blending: The hows, dos and don’ts of getting the perfect match

We know how tricky it can be to match a brick, so we’ve spoken to our friends at Imperial Bricks, one of the UK’s leading brick suppliers, to understand what and how brick blending can help you to create a seamless finish.

How does brick blending work?

Blending may sound quite technical but there are actually only three simple steps to brick blending and lucky for you, your local Jewson branch is on hand to give you expert advice.

Step one: Bring the brick you’d like to match in to your local Jewson branch. If you don’t have this to hand, a hi-res picture taken on your phone will do or, if easier, a member of the branch team can make a visit to site.

Step two: Jewson then work closely with our brick matching team to find the closest possible match for your build. We have a range of over 50+ traditional handmade bricks. These include a variety of colours, textures and finishes.

Step three: We use specialist techniques like tumbling (in a nutshell, a process that removes brick’s edges to make them look older) and adding a mortar finish to create that perfect look.

Sell the process

Now that you know the basics of brick blending, the next step is to sell and explain the process to your customer. So here are just a few benefits:

  • Through blending, you can choose the perfect texture and colour mix of your brick, giving you more options on the brick’s look than ever before.
  • Not only can you control the texture and specific colour of a brick, you also choose how weathered and aged you want its appearance to be. This is ideal for extending onto or restoring older buildings
  • Getting the exterior spot-on makes life much easier when it comes to getting through certain building regulations, such as requiring certain colour, sizes and style of bricks
