Right kids, do up that top button and grab your butties – it’s time to go back to school!
Well, not exactly. But the kids going back got us thinking: how can trades boost their knowledge and skills throughout their careers?
Here are a few ways to go back to school, without having to back all your books in your mum’s old wallpaper.
Starting out
If you’re leaving school, the last thing you want to think about is going back.
But if you’re after a career in construction, City and Guilds is the place to look for an accredited course, both at apprentice level and beyond.
They offer entry level through to Level 6, covering everything from basic hand skills to specialist trade occupations and site supervisory and management skills.
Safety first
The health and safety landscape is always evolving and it’s important to keep up with it, for obvious reasons.
The Construction Industry Training Board offers Site Safety Plus courses which are designed to give everyone from operatives to senior managers the know-how they need.
Swotting up
If you want to take your career to the next level, studying construction management at university is a good call. It takes a lot of commitment, but it’s worth it to hone your site skills to the extent that you can get into project management, financial management, property development and more.
There may even still be uni courses open for clearing, so make sure you have a look here.
Or, if you just can’t get enough of building materials, why not work for us?
