To mark his retirement after a staggering 49 years’ service, staff at our Colchester branch arranged for David Stannard to receive a signed Colchester United shirt from the team manager – as he’s an ardent fan of the club!
The presentation was made just before kick-off at the recent match between Colchester and Southampton. Branch Manager, Chris Jones, said: “David has always been a passionate follower of the Us and so it seemed right to celebrate his retirement after such a long service in this very personal way.”
After ten years away from our screens, Jewson is back this Bank Holiday weekend with a new TV advertising campaign – airing exclusively on Sky from 1st May 2011.
The new advert was filmed at our Southampton branch and features a number of staff alongside actors. Here’s Sylvia Evans and Jason Eastland from the branch with one of the professional actors from the ad.
Bradley Moore, Marketing Services Director at Jewson commented: “We are proud of the fact that the Jewson brand has flourished over the past 175 years and what better way to celebrate than to use the media of television to reinforce our commitment to the building trade.”

Following an extensive selection process Luton Borough Council has selected Jewson to supply its Building and Technical Service Division.
We’ll be working closely to streamline the council’s programmed maintenance and reactive repair service to its residential properties and operational buildings – delivering a number of tailored services, which include a dedicated counter at the local Dallow Road branch, electronic reports and consolidated invoicing to improve efficiency. We’ll also be working with Luton BTS on an integrated IT package to achieve even greater efficiencies across the materials purchasing process.
“The change in supplier was a significant adjustment for the Building and Technical Services team,” commented Helen Bristow Finance Manager at the Luton BTS. “However, the team at Jewson has worked with us to ensure the transition has been as smooth as possible. We are now able to deliver an even more efficient repair and maintenance service across our building stock and we look forward to developing the partnership with Jewson to generate even greater benefits in the future.”
Our Sunderland branch of Jewson has won the closely fought Large Branch of the Year 2010 award. The branch in Southwick won the award for being the highest performing within the area despite strong competition from other branches. Although it achieved a record level of sales, is attributing this success to the continued support of its customers in the local area.
The win comes following a busy year, after the branch was relaunched in April 2010 following the amalgamation of the Pallion branch with the larger branch in the Southwick area.
Dennis Scarth, Jewson Area Director commented: “We would like to thank all our customers for their support throughout 2010. We understand that although we have worked hard to keep the impact on our customers to a minimum, the merging of two branches into one larger facility inevitably causes some disruption, so we are grateful to all our customers, both existing and new, for their loyalty.”
We recently posted about an evening we held for construction professionals at Gloucester Rugby Club. The event provided the opportunity for our customers to learn more about the latest sustainable building products, materials and practices. Here’s some footage from the night…
Northampton FC recently played host to the Jewson Penalty Cup Final, which saw Greens Norton Primary School beat the Silverstone Racers to lift the cup, winning a training session with the Northampton Manager Gary Johnson.
This much anticipated under 10s tournament final was held at half time during the recent match between Northampton Town and Bury. Gary commented saying:
“The final was a well contested competition and I am looking forward to going over to see Greens Norton Primary School in action. Grassroots football is essential not only for the game but also for the development of health and wellbeing in young people. The support from Jewson this season was instrumental in staging this competition.”

The green building agenda will affect anyone who wants to construct a new build or refurbish an existing building. Our aim is to help builders in the industry to deliver greener buildings that are more energy efficient and cost effective for their owners to run. The night gave attendees the opportunity to network with key suppliers currently working with us.
Malcolm Gough our Market Director of Sustainability commented:
“Professionals in the industry are aware of the need to introduce more sustainable methods of building and materials into their everyday work. Events like this one enable us to talk directly to these individuals, providing them with invaluable advice on how to achieve this.”
