Robot brickies on the rise

Meet the SAM 100 (Semi Automated Mason) – a bricklaying robot for on-site masonry construction made by New York-based Construction Robotics.

It can lay 250 to 300 bricks every hour, apparently, and it’s now in the UK.

The good news is, it doesn’t replace the brickie. What it does do is assist with the repetitive and strenuous task of lifting and placing each brick. Once that’s done, the attending brickie is responsible for the quality of the final wall.

Hopes are that it will save builders time, money and their health – so maybe it’s not time to prep for the robot apocalypse just yet…
