Minchinhampton scores new club house with help from Jewson

Minchinhampton Rugby Football Club has been at the heart of its local community since it was established in 1982. But after it moved to a new site three years ago, the team has been without a club house and therefore unable to play games at home.

After hearing the plight of Minchinhampton RFC, Jewson decided to help prop up the club by donating building materials. With support from Jewson and help from the local community, Minchinhampton RFC has been able to build a brand new clubhouse complete with changing rooms and shower facilities. This means it can now host home games and continue to encourage local residents to get involved with the sport.

To celebrate the completion of the new clubhouse, patron of the Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, was pitch-side on 3rd March to officially open the new facilities.

Former England star Mike Tindall MBE was also in attendance on the pitch, leading a team of ex-international players in a match against some of GRFU’s top talent.Minchinhampton1

Speaking about the project, Kevin Gwillim, Branch Manager at Jewson explained: “With branches nationwide, we play an active role supporting the communities in which we work. Up and down the country, there are clubs and groups just like Minchinhampton bring local residents together, and we’re pleased to have been able to help this club continue to thrive.”

J-P Corry, Director at Minchinhampton RFC said: “As a grass-roots club, we value the support of our local community and companies like Jewson. In the last few years, the club has raised a significant amount of money to fund the new clubhouse, and the added contribution from Jewson has helped us reach our target.”

Jewson supplied a wide range of materials to help complete the clubhouse, including entrance doors and door frames, ironmongery, paving slabs, drainage, and general groundworks materials.

If your club or community needs a helping hand like Minchinhampton RFC, Jewson is giving away £200,000 to regional initiatives through its Building Better Communities competition. Go to www.buildingbettercommunities.co.uk to find out more.
