We caught up with Hamza Fazal, a recent graduate who has completed the Jewson Graduate Scheme to reflect on his experience.
What are the main things you’ve learnt on the Jewson Graduate Programme?
It has helped me gain a number of skills including self-management, presentational skills, as well as being proactive and using my own initiative. I have built up specialist knowledge whilst working across different levels within the business, building key contacts to enable me to fulfil my role effectively.
What have you enjoyed most on the Jewson Graduate Programme?
You are given real responsibility from day one. As part of the programme you are given a live project to work on over 6 months, which enables you to make a real contribution.
It gives you the chance to explore the wider business. I was in Centre Parcs the other day meeting graduates from other areas within Saint-Gobain which was great. All in all, you get to pass on the baton to the new graduates coming through which gives you a sense of satisfaction.
How do you see your career progressing within Jewson and Saint-Gobain?
The possibilities are endless within Jewson and Saint-Gobain due to the size and scope of the group. There is a variety of job roles available, which means no matter what your skill set or interest, the opportunities are on your doorstep. For me, my interest is Digital Marketing, and I hope to progress and pursue a career in this area within the business.
How have you personally progressed as part of the Jewson Graduate Programme?
I’ve learnt key skills such as how to deliver effective presentations to a range of audiences. I’ve worked with a wide range of people, at all levels increasing my confidence. After completing my graduate programme I was successful in landing a permanent position as a Social Media Executive – it’s great to think of how I started off, to the confident person I am now.
