London Gets its Own Self Build Register

London City Hall has recently announced the launch of a new ‘Build Your Own Home’ register. Supported by the Mayor of London, the register is an online platform for people in the capital with a keen interest in building or designing their own homes.

With housing costs rising across London and more than 60,000 new properties required each year, by some estimates, to keep up with demand, self build projects could help the housing crisis facing the capital.

The website was created to support self builders in securing a plot of land to develop. City Hall has said that it will help them to evaluate interest in self-build and “provide a model for how local registers could be run.[1]

The register will certainly create some fascinating data around the interest in self build in our capital, but can the new website encourage people to begin building their own homes?
