You’ve got the right

Some of you may already be aware that last year The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) launched the Community Right to Build initiative. This gives people the chance to propose small-scale developments such as new homes and shops, without going through the time consuming and often difficult planning application process.

So far, 60 councils across the UK have made 5,000 serviced plots available for people wanting to build their own homes, highlighting the long term potential of the scheme.

We think you’ll agree that this is good news as it’s taken far too long for us to get a say in what happens in our communities – whether it’s about what happens to local amenities, how services are delivered or how a new development is planned.

If you’re interested in what the initiative has to offer, check out more information here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/youve-got-the-power-a-quick-and-simple-guide-to-community-rights

And remember if you do tackle a development, it’s not just trade professionals that can take advantage of the products and expertise a builders’ merchant offers. At Jewson, we’re also here to help support members of the public. You can open an account in your local branch and receive expert assistance for all types of building projects
