“I’d undertaken a few renovation projects in the past, so I’d had a fair amount of construction experience when the opportunity came to purchase a plot of land. From the outset, although I hired an architect, I decided to project manage the build myself – essentially taking on the role of main contractor and designer.
Not long after I started, I found out about the Jewson self-build service during one of my many visits to my local branch where I was buying all the materials. The service and the added support the team gave me was just so useful. Even with experience in renovation, their advice and guidance was really important.
I was overjoyed when I finally finished the build exactly 12 months after it began – on time and on budget. It really was daunting tackling a self build project of this scale. But despite the challenging and sometimes stressful process – the end result was worth all the blood, sweat and tears and the sense of achievement is fantastic.
What’s more, going through the self-build process, I’d managed to build a really good relationship with my local branch team in Rutland. When I saw they were recruiting for an administrative position I went for it and was absolutely delighted when Jewson offered me the role. Now I’ve got a new job that offers me the flexibility to spend time with my family and to enjoy our dream home.”
