Volunteers from across the country offered their spare time to help renovate Forton Cricket Club’s facilities getting it ready for the new season. Former England cricket captain Mike Gatting and Danielle Wyatt from the women’s England cricket team also turned up to lend a helping hand.
If you’ve kept a close eye on our blog, you will know that the day was organised as part of a showcase event in the award-winning NatWest CricketForce initiative. Volunteers, as well as members and staff from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), built and repaired walls, painted the scorebox and pavilion, and got stuck in with the general DIY activities around the club house and surrounding grounds.
Key Account Manager, James Bugden commented: “When Forton Cricket Club signed up to the initiative and told us about the work they wanted to carry out on their pavilion and grounds, we thought it would be a great opportunity to lend a hand and do something for the community. We supplied the club with an extra £500 to spend at Jewson to get their grounds and facilities in top condition.
“The day was an overall success and the ground looks great – ready for the season ahead! We’d like to thank everyone that helped out and in particular our trusty suppliers that either donated or heavily discounted products for the project: Salop Sand and Gravel, Grange Fencing, Rowlinson Garden Products, International Timber, Lafarge Cement, Crown Paints, Hamilton and Akzo Nobel.”
