Ex England cricketer Paul Nixon joined in with some volunteer work at the Corley Cricket Club in Warwickshire on Friday 4th April as part of our fantastic partnership with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and NatWest CricketForce Initiative.
The initiative helps cricket clubs improve facilities and the quality of playing pitches, when the club pays £50; we donate £350 towards materials.
As a leading supplier in sustainable timber and building materials, we work on schemes such as these as part of our commitment to the community. A team of volunteers and our local employees offered to help out in Warwickshire on the day, using our donated paintbrushes, rollers, wood paint and white paint. The majority of work was done outside in the April sunshine. A fresh lick of paint was given to benches and sightscreens, while the garden was freed of troublesome over-grown weeds.
Chimene Codner, a Graduate Trainee at our head office in Coventry was one of the excellent volunteers on the day, she said: “I was happy to help out. This was my first time doing volunteer work with Jewson and it was a valuable and enjoyable experience. The cricket club really appreciated the work we did and I can see how worthwhile our time and materials were to them.”
Stephen Leeson, Marketing Manager at Jewson, also volunteered on the day, he said: “It’s always great to get involved with donations, and I love to get my hands dirty and really get stuck in. The scheme is a brilliant idea as cricket clubs across the country benefit from the help. Corley Cricket Club looked fresh and clean once we had finished on the day!”
